Ten Tips For Creating Your
Family Reunion Cookbook NOW!
 

If your are like most of us, you have little time and even with your best intentions of having a cookbook to sell at this years reunion, it is not done. Here are some helpful hints that will have your cookbook almost written by itself… 

1.       Notify every family member that the cost of attendance has changed this year. They all should bring at least one photograph, story and family recipe to this year’s reunion.

2.      Make sure in the announcement that they know to bring copies since you want insure their heirloom is not lost or damaged. A usable copy is best.

3.      Have one person collect all the items from the relatives as the come to the reunion. This person should write down what each person has contributed.

4.      Have that same person make sure all the contact information is correct at that time so if there are any more questions later they will be contacted to answer them.

5.      Have one person visually scan the materials for talking points. These talking points are stories that can be told at the reunion and other family members will enjoy adding more insight to those stories.

6.      Have one person talk with the senior most members of the family to get some insight about the family reunion. What the first one they attend was like? How has it changed over the years? Have this person record these stories to be added to the cookbook.

7.      Have someone take photographs while these people are being interviewed. With those photos added to the cookbook with their stories.

8.      Ask the family to order their cookbooks now while they are excited about being part of the process. These advance orders will help you cover the cost of publishing the cookbook. (Since you do not know how many pages this cookbook will be you can not quote a price. It is their intention to buy it that you are using.)

9.      You now have 11 months to put all the materials together for your cookbook and it have it printed for next year’s reunion.
